KABUL: At least 23 Taliban fighters have been killed and two others were wounded during latest military raids conducted by the Afghan security forces in two provinces in the past 24 hours, defense officials said on Tuesday.
Afghan forces supported by Afghan Air Forces targeted Taliban insurgents in Arghandab district of southern Kandahar province, where at least 13 Taliban militants, including two commanders of the group were killed and two others wounded, the Ministry of Defense said in a statement.
One PK machine gun and an AK-47 rifle were also seized.
Jawlahor and Baboran areas in the district were cleared from the enemy, the statement added.
According to the statement, 17 mines planted by the Taliban were discovered and defused by the Afghan forces in the district.
The Afghan Air Forces targeted Taliban positions in Shahr-e-Safa district of southern Zabul province that killed 10 Taliban fighters, the statement mentioned.
Some weapons and ammunition of the enemy were also destroyed in the district.
