45 Afghan nationals arrested in Turkey


Kabul: According to reports from Turkish media dated Friday, April 19th, 29 Afghan refugees were apprehended in the city of Balikesir, while another 16 refugees were detained in Çanakkale Fortress.

Additionally, authorities in Turkey have announced the arrest of four individuals accused of smuggling these refugees. Previously, Turkish media had covered the detention of numerous Afghan refugees due to a lack of residence permits in Turkey. On Thursday, April 18th, Turkish coast guards also reported the detention of 40 Afghan refugees on the shores of Ayvalık.

The Turkish Ministry of Interior has highlighted that in 2023, a total of 68,687 Afghan migrants were apprehended in the country, with some subsequently deported. Turkish authorities have declared that operations targeting the entry and detention of illegal migrants across Turkey will continue. It is noteworthy that official statistics indicate that over 300,000 Afghan migrants currently reside in Turkey.
