KABUL: At least 49 Taliban fighters were killed and 11 others wounded during operations carried out by the Afghan security forces in different provinces over the past 24 hours, security officials said.
“The Taliban rebels had gathered and were planning to attack the Afghan security forces’ checkpoints in the districts of Arghandab, Dand and Panjwaee of southern Kandahar province, but were targeted by operations carried out by the Afghan forces,” said a statement issued by Ministry of Defense (MoD).
The statement said that 30 Taliban fighters were killed and four others wounded during the operations.
Also seven strongholds of the enemies were destroyed along with some weapons and ammunitions, added the statement.
Four improvised explosive devices planted by the Taliban on the roadsides to target civilians and military members were discovered and defused by the security forces.
The statement said that 13 rebels including a commander were killed two others wounded in Aynak and Gerwan Kala area of Nawa district of Kandahar’s adjacent province of Helmand in the south.
Also six Taliban insurgents were killed and five others wounded after clashes with the Afghan security forces in Gajkin and Gaskin village of Posht Rod district in the western Farah province, the statement noted.
It said that six improvised explosive devices planted by the Taliban in the district were discovered and neutralized.
