4th-QCG starts in Kabul: Govt expects date for direct Talks with Taliban

By Farhad Naibkhel-KABUL: The 4th Meeting of the Quadrilateral Coordination Group (QCG) of Afghanistan, Pakistan, the United States and China started with the opening remarks of Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani in the Presidential palace on Tuesday, where Afghan government asked the group to draft the details of the direct Talks with Taliban.

Foreign Minister Salahudin Rabbani during his opening remarks said that we want the 4-QCG to draft the details of the direct talks between government of Afghanistan and Taliban before end of February.

He said that Afghan government following political process and end of violence urge all Taliban to join the process, adding that our hug will be open for those who want to join reconciliation process.

This is the best opportunity for dissident to put end for war against their homeland, he noted.

He said that Afghanistan constitution not closed door to those who seek political partnership and we trust to peace.

Following president and CEO’s recent remarks, foreign minister repeatedly asked Taliban, Afghanistan Islamic Party leading by Hekmatyar and other dissident groups to join reconciliation process.

He insisted that besides following peace process honestly the Afghan forces will continue to defend from people and historical achievements gained in the past years as well as combat against those groups make challenges ahead.

Afghan government massage is clear to those groups not joining peace and continue their violence, Afghan forces will combat against them and will strive to repel their subversive activities, he asserted.

He termed Pakistan’s role for success of joint attempts important and expected from Afghan-Pak Ulema urgent efforts for supporting peace in Afghanistan and resistance against violence imposed over Afghan people.

Peace is not only a dream for Afghan people, but a precondition for stability in the region, he mentioned.

Beside all steps “we want reduction of violence” against people for further trust building for the process, he asserted.

He also praised all parties’ cooperation in the process and asked them for further cooperation to reach to a durable peace in Afghanistan.

It is pertained to mention that the 4-QCG meeting continue behind close door, maybe they will release a statement about the outcome of the meeting late this afternoon.
