KABUL: Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, head of the Hezb-e-Islami (Islamic Party) rejected President Ghani’s offer to be included as a member of the newly formed consultation board for peace talks with Taliban, saying the board should be made by political parties.
President Ashraf Ghani announced this week the 27-member consultative board which includes almost all jihadi leaders.
But Hekmatyar says that jihadi parties had their own delegation to hold talks with Taliban anywhere.
He claimed that the government’s peace consultative board was “symbolic”, rejecting his and other jihadi parties’ participation.
Hekmatyar also dismissed the results of October parliamentary elections as “illegal”, asking the government to revoke the results and hold a fresh election along with the presidential election slated for April, 2019.
