50 schools reopened in Kunduz

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: At least 50 schools which were previously closed due to insecurity in the Chardara, Aliabad, Dashti-i-Archi and Gurtapa districts of the northern Kunduz province have been reopened.

These schools were reopened after marked improvement in security situation in the province, an official said on Sunday.

Abdul Karim Wahdat, a senior official at the education department, said that the closure of schools was deprived around 500 students from access to the education.  “The schools would not be reopened without the mediation of the tribal elders,” he said.

Even schools in the areas under the Taliban’s control had reopened after indefatigable efforts of the tribal elders, he said.

“I stop attending the school after clashes erupted in the area,” Masuma, a girl school student said.

Her family took shelter in the safer place and according to Masum they settled in Kunduz city, the provincial capital.
