AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: President Ashraf Ghani and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Afghanistan, Abdullah Abdullah are yet to reach an agreement over appointment of head of the electoral reform commission, said a spokesman for CEO.
Jawed Faisal told Azadi Radio that one office the government wants to appoint those figures as head of the commission who were either involved in poll ragging or have supported ragging during the 2014 presidential elections. “Other office of the government stresses on appointment of honest people to bring reforms in the electoral bodies,” he added.
“Discussions over appointment of head of the electoral reform body are still going on between the two leaders,” he added.
However, an official in the Presidential Palace said on condition of anonymity that head of the commission will be announced soon.
The electoral reforms commission was established around two months ago, but it hasn’t started its work yet. President Ghani appointed Shukria Barikzai as head of commission; however, Abdullah Abdullah opposed the decision.
It was reported that both President Ghani and CEO have agreed on appointment of Jandad Speenghar as head of the electoral reforms commission. However, some sources say that President Ghani stresses on Hamidullah Farooqi to be appointed as head of the body.
