AT News Report-KABUL: At least nine civilians have lost their lives in a military operation carried out in Chaparhar district of eastern Nangarhar province, local residents said on Monday.
Former President Hamid Karzai has strongly condemned the military operations in Nangarhar and Helmand and provinces that caused deaths to civilians including children.
Karzai via his twitter account has called for an immediate end to operations that inflict casualties and financial losses on our people.
Residents in Chaparhar district said that nine civilians were martyred during a military operation conducted by Afghan Special Forces on Saturday night.
The military operation carried out in Hadikhil and Mandarkhil areas of the district.
The residents took out to the streets to give vent to their anger over civilians killing, and brought the dead bodies in front of district headquarters as protest.
People were busy farming while the operation carried out that caused killing of civilians, BBC Pashto has quoted some residents, as saying.
“Three teachers are among nine civilians who were martyred,” Hayat Khan, a tribal elder told BBC.
“Saturday night, the Afghan Special Forces carried out operation, killing nine farmers including three teachers,” Khan said, adding that Special Forces have taken eight more civilians with them.
