Over 100 insurgents killed in nationwide ops

AT-KABUL: More than 100 Taliban fighters were killed and 75 others injured during air and ground operations carried out by the security forces in different provinces within past 24 hours.

Afghan forces targeted Taliban convoy through airstrike in Marja district of southern Helmand province Monday night, killing 40 fighters and wounding 45 others in the area, provincial press office said in a statement.

Taliban‘s 14 vehicles were also destroyed in the district, the statement added.

Eight other Taliban insurgents were killed in ground raid by Afghan forces in Greshk district of the same province.

Taliban suffered heavy casualties in Helmand volatile province, while recently tens of Taliban attacked different district in the province.

Separately 68 rebels were killed and 29 others wounded in the crackdowns conducted by Afghan National Army (ANA) in collaboration with Afghan National Police (ANP) and National Directorate of Security (NDS) personal in different provinces across the country within past 24 hours, said Ministry of Defense in a statement.

Statement said that number of Taliban commanders and Panjabi citizens were among killed insurgents.

ANA discovered and confiscated weapons and ammunition left behind in battle site by Taliban during operations.

Unfortunately nine army soldier were killed in the operations as well.
