Rocket hits on a nuclear power plant in Ukraine

AT

Kabul: Ukraine’s nuclear agency says Russian rockets have damaged part of a giant Russian-controlled nuclear power plant, but there has been no radiation leak.

Russia seized the Zaporizhzhia plant in March but kept its Ukrainian employees. Russia controls the plant and surrounding areas, close to Ukrainian-held territory.

Following the attack on the ” Zaporizhzhia ” nuclear power plant in Ukraine, one of its reactors was shut down.

Ukraine has accused Russia of firing rockets from the power plant towards the residential areas of Ukraine while Russia says that Ukraine fired a missile at the nuclear facility.

Earlier this week Amnesty International in a report, accused the Ukrainian army of using its civilians as human shields against the attacks of the Russian army.

It is stated in this report that the Ukrainian army is deliberately deploying military equipment such as rocket launchers and missiles under the cover of civilian buildings to hide them from the Russian Air Force, which directly puts Ukrainian civilians at risk of air strike and missile.

The plant is in the city of Enerhodar, in the south-east of Ukraine along the left bank of the River Dnieper (Dnipro in Ukrainian) and it consists of six pressurized water reactors and stores radioactive waste.
