Stringent action needed to stop subjugation of women: Minister
AT-KABUL: Minister of Women’s Affairs, Delbar Nazari has emphasized on the establishment and implementation of sound financial mechanisms to enforce the national action plan and women’s economic empowerment.
Nazari made the remarks during her speech at the 62nd session of Commission on the Status of Women in New York. She said effective measures were needed to end sexual and gender-based violence against women and girls.
Speaking on the women empowerment in the country, Nazari said more than 240 women have been serving as judges in her country’s judicial system and 21 percent of the members of the Afghanistan Independent Bar Association belongs to women.
Highlighting the government’s political will and efforts toward empowering women in every walk of life in the country, Nazari said, “Our commitment towards gender equality and women’s empowerment is at the centre of Afghanistan’s development plans, which are crucial to the realization of 2030 agenda.
“We believe that women are powerful agents of change and empowering rural women is key to the empowerment of society,” the minister said.
