Suicide attack on Pakistan military post results in casualties among troops

Kabul: Pakistan reports that at least five security forces lost their lives and 17 sustained injuries in a suicide attack targeting a military post near the Afghan border on the morning of March 16. The attackers, numbering six, utilized a vehicle loaded with explosives to carry out the assault in the North Waziristan district, as stated by the Pakistani military’s media division. The military did not specify the militant group responsible for the attack.

Residents in Waziristan in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province said an explosion shook doors and damaged windows at around 6.15 a.m. local time.

Militants affiliated with Hafiz Gul, the leader of a Pakistani Taliban faction based in the area, claimed responsibility for the assault.

North Waziristan has long been a hotbed of militants operating on both sides of the border. Pakistani officials say attacks have risen in recent months, many of them claimed by the Pakistani Taliban (TTP).

Pakistani military officials claim their mop-up operations in North Waziristan have cleared the area of Taliban fighters and other militant groups.
