KABUL: At least 15 people were killed in northern Takhar province after a motorbike laden with explosives went off behind an election campaign tent for a woman standing as a candidate in parliamentary polls.
A motorbike full of explosive ripped through a campaign gathering of Nazifa Yusufi Bekin Rostaq district in the afternoon, said Takhar Police Spokesman Khalil Aseer.
He said that 15 supporters of the candidate were killed and 35 others wounded in the blast.
Nazifa Yusufi Bekhas survived the blast, as she was in her vehicle when the bomb went off.
Among casualties was an intelligence officer killed and three policemen wounded.
No terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the bombing so far.
In another similar occurrence, two people including a child were killed and another wounded after gunfire erupted in an election campaign office of a local candidate in western Herat province.
Herat Governor Spokesman Jailani Farhad said a shooting occurred on office of Haji Sayed Azim who is standing as a candidate from Injil district, in which two people including a child were killed and a guard injured.
He said it was early to comment on whether it was a terrorist attack or criminal act.
A delegation has been sent to investigate the attack.
Election campaigns have been hit by a campaign of terror since early October. Last week, a suicide bomber struck an election campaign of candidate Abdul Naser Mohmand in Kama district of Nangarhar, killing dozens of people.
Although Afghan forces have put security on high alert in the provinces to secure a smooth vote, this is the third and the fourth explosions targeting election rallies.
