KABUL – The Taliban have established their presence at Afghanistan’s embassy in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. This move marks Uzbekistan as the second nation to host a Taliban-appointed ambassador, following China’s precedent of accepting Bilal Karimi as the Taliban’s ambassador in Beijing.
Magfoorullah Shahab, son of Taliban Minister of Mines Shahabuddin Delawar, took charge of Afghanistan embassy in Tashkent on Friday, succeeding Ahmad Khalid Elmi, the ambassador from the previous Afghan government.
Elmi, who was appointed during the tenure of Afghanistan’s former government, had been working under the oversight of the Taliban’s foreign ministry for the past two years. His dismissal was formally announced by the Taliban’s foreign ministry.
