AT-KABUL: Taliban fighters last night after a heavy fighting overran Ghormach district of northwestern Faryab province, sources in the province said.
The attack began late last night and finally today early in the morning security forces retreated back to an army base in the district, a provincial official, who did not want to be named, told Afghanistan Times.
District governor compound and police headquarters were now being controlled by Taliban fighters who suffered heavy casualties, but the exact number is not yet clear, the official said.
The clashes were now underway near to the military base, where most of the district officials were based. The main case behind the fall of the district was to prevent casualties among the security forces the source said.
