Turkmenistan, Afghanistan forge ahead on TAPI project

KABUL – Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov on Sunday engaged in discussions with his Afghan counterpart Amir Khan Muttaqi in Baku, Azerbaijan, focusing on the progress of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project and other crucial matters, as reported by the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.

The talks unfolded during a working visit by Turkmenistan’s delegation to Herat province (Afghanistan) on December 16-17, 2023. Minister Meredov and his team delved into the status of key projects, including the TAPI gas pipeline, Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) high-voltage power transmission line, and the expansion of Afghanistan’s railway infrastructure. The delegation also toured energy and transportation facilities jointly constructed by companies from both nations.

Notably, the Afghan side brought together not only Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi but also Minister of Mines Shahabuddin Delawar and Minister of Industry and Trade Nooruddin Azizi. The comprehensive discussion encompassed issues pertaining to the ongoing development of bilateral cooperation across diverse sectors.
