KABUL: The Taliban delegation and US representative for Afghan peace are set to meet within a week before the holy month of Ramadan in Qatar to hold the sixth round of negotiations on peace in Afghanistan.
The meeting is announced after an Afghan to Afghan meeting scheduled last week in the Qatari capital city of Doha was canceled when the governments of Afghanistan and Qatar were unable to reach an agreement over the number of participants.
Sources close to Taliban said Monday that the new round of talks with US representative Zalmay Khalilzad would be held before Ramadan month to discuss the remaining of their fifth round of negotiations held in February and March.
Wahid Mojda, a political analyst and foreign ministry official in Taliban government, said that the new discussions would likely include a ceasefire and intra-Afghan dialogue.
Khalilzad left Kabul on Monday for Islamabad to talk to Pakistani officials on the peace efforts in Afghanistan.
“We discussed different subjects related to the Afghan peace process and I will have the talks in the Doha meeting,” Khalilzad said.
Taliban have so far rejected holding talks with President Ghani’s government as well as holding a ceasefire to run peace efforts.
