AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: At least 275 schoolteachers received allotment letter of residential plots in a township scheme which began the other day in the southern Khost province, said officials.
The scheme was approved by the former President Hamid Karzai nine years ago, but the land was grabbed by some powerful people.
The chief of Tani district of Khost province, Hukam Khan Habibi, during a ceremony marking the launch of the distribution process said that the township scheme consisted of 275 houses for teachers. The teachers from Gurbaz and Tani districts will get the plots. He said that the houses are being constructed on 60 acres of land in Seegai area of Tani district.
He added that there would be more plots for distribution in different parts of the province for other teachers.
Hakeem Khan, a teacher, said that teachers had never availed such privileges during his past 25 years of career.
Meanwhile, another teacher Lal Saaduddin expressed that he was happy with the distribution of plots, adding the government should provide such opportunities and pay heed to the financial status of teachers.
