KABUL: At least 35 Taliban fighters have been killed and over 20 others received injured after the Afghan and coalition forces intensified clearing operation in Balamorghab district of western Badghis province after reports of heave casualty on part of Afghan side made headlines in different media outlets.
“Afghan Air Forces and Coalition Forces, carried out several airstrikes in Akazai and Police Headquarters areas in Balamorghab,” the Ministry of Defense said in a statement.
“35 Taliban terrorists were killed, 22 wounded, and 35 tactical vehicles, a lot of weapons and ammunition destroyed, the statement added. Moreover, these strikes shattered the Taliban gatherings and tactical maneuvers in the district. According to statement, clearance operation would go on until last breath of the insurgents in Balamorghab district.
This comes after At least 32 security forces have allegedly surrendered to Taliban insurgents in the district that was under the Taliban siege since last Wednesday.
Abdul Nasir Nazari, a member of provincial council said 32 security forces joined the Taliban with arms late on Friday. He said the firefight was still underway and the reinforcement was yet to be arrived in the district.
Based on some reports, tens of Afghan security forces were killed and wounded since fighting started in the district.
