KABUL: President Ashraf Ghani’s national security advisor Hamdullah Mohib met Thursday with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and launched into the nitty-gritty of advancing Afghanistan-Taliban peace efforts.
Mohib and Wang Yi discussed peace process under leadership of Afghanistan, regional security and bilateral relations, the National Security Council said on Friday in a statement.
The Afghan NSA touted Beijing’s largesse and support Afghanistan in various arenas, saying China had a vital role to play in facilitating regional peace and stability.
The Chinese foreign minister insisted on an Afghan led and owned peace process and added peace in Afghanistan may not be possible without direct talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban.
He reiterated China’s unwavering support to Afghanistan, particularly in peace and reconciliation process.
