KABUL: The U.S. says that the Taliban will not gain international legitimacy through violence and force, warning the group to stop its series of attacks- which it has waged in on urban areas.

The White House Press Secretary, Jen Psaki cited the remarks in reaction to the assassination of director of the government media and information center, Dawa Khan Menapal.

Menapal was shot dead by gunmen in capital Kabul. The Taliban asserted the responsibility for the attack. She urged Taliban to devote war energy on peace process.

This comes as Taliban have intensified violence across the country and claimed capturing the centers of hundreds of districts and the provincial capital and carrying out targeted assassination of senior government officials.
