AT-KABUL: Provincial Police Chief of southeastern Khost province said on Wednesday that two terrorists having links with the notorious Haqqani Network were arrested during an operation.
In a press statement, the provincial police chief said that the arrests were made during an operation conducted by Afghan Special Forces in Pul-i-Alam district of the eastern province.
The provincial police claimed that the arrested terrorists were Haqqani Network’s experts in bomb-making. However, the media statement has not mentioned names of the detained militants.
According to the statement the two militants were involved in different subversive activities including planting roadside bombs, which is the main cause of civilian casualties in the province.
As a Taliban-affiliated group of militants, the Haqqani Network mostly operates in eastern provinces and has been responsible for many attacks against Afghan and US forces.
The security forces have stepped up security operations against the Taliban and other militant groups recently as the insurgents have been attempting to gain more territory and consolidate their positions ahead of winter in the country.
