52 insurgents killed in fresh stings

KABUL: At least 52 Taliban militants have been killed and 36 others wounded in multiple extensive military crackdowns carried out by the Afghan security forces across the country in the past 24 hours, security officials said Wednesday.

Ministry of Defense in a statement said the Afghan National Army (ANA) in collaboration with Afghan National Police (ANP) and National Directorate of Security (NDS) personal conducted joint operations against insurgents in different areas of Faryab, Helmand, Laghman, Kandahar, Nangarhar, Herat, Kunduz, Urzgan and Khost provinces, in which  52 militants were killed and 36 others wounded.

Afghan security forces during operation arrested nine militants including six suspects and handed them over to the judicial organs for further inquiry.

Afghan National Defense and Security Forces shelled and bombed the enemies’ positions and sanctuaries by artilleries and air forces.

During these operations, 12 Taliban fighters were killed and 15 others wounded in Sherin Tagab district of Faryab, eight militants were killed, five wounded and six suspects detained in Nadali and Nahr-e-Seraj district of Helmand—seven rebels killed and 10 others wounded in Alishing district of Laghman—seven insurgents killed in Ghorak district of Kandahar—six militants killed and another wounded in Mohmand Dara and Shirzad district of Nangarhar—six insurgents killed in Gulran district of Herat province.

Similarly, four rebels were killed in Talawka area of Kunduz, two militants were killed and five others wounded in Khas Uruzgan district of Urzgan and three militants were arrested with arms in Sabri district of Khost province.

In the past 24 hours, 15 planed clearing operations, and Special Forces operations conducted in different provinces; also, Air Forces conducted aerial operations supporting Afghan National Army including four strikes on enemy’s sanctuaries.
