AT-KABUL: At least 84 insurgents including 27 Daesh terrorists were killed and 36 others wounded in different operations launched by the security forces within the past 24 hours across the county, security officials said on Saturday.
The national army with the cooperation of the national police and the national directorate of security operatives, conducted clearance operations against insurgents in different areas of Nangarhar, Paktia, Paktika, Kandahar, Uruzgan, Zabul, Badghis, Herat, Farah, Faryab, Baghlan, Kunduz, and Helmand provinces, the defense ministry said in a statement.
In these operations, 84 insurgents including 27 Daesh terrorists were killed and 36 others injured, it said. According to statement seven insurgents arrested during the operation.
“660 kg of Ammonium Nitrate were confiscated along with 1 landmine and some other type of military equipment during the operations,” the statement said.
Unfortunately, four soldiers were also killed during the clashes.
Separately, At least a police officer was killed and four others including a senior police commander were injured in a suicide bombing in southern Kandahar province, local official said.
Provincial police spokesman Zia Durrani said a patrol of Afghan police was targeted at around 10:30 am by a suicide bomber who was driving a vehicle-laden with explosives.
“The attack left one policeman dead and three others wounded” he added.
According to the source, Haji Farid, the chief of police district 9 of Kandahar city has escaped unhurt from the explosion, but a medical official confirmed that the police chief is under treatment in the hospital due to wounds he has sustained.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
