KABUL: Founder of the Mawj-i-Tahawal of Afghanistan and former female member of Wolesi Jirga Fowzia Kofi has termed the upcoming Loya Jirga for peace unfair and against the country’s national interest. She believes it is part of extravagant election campaign which is of no use at the moment.
Briefing newsmen on Sunday in Kabul, she said that over 50 percent of Afghan masses living under extreme poverty line, thus in such circumstance holding costly Jirga is not fair, rather the needy people should be helped instead.
This comes as recently the ministry of finance said that nearly five million dollars is needed to run the Loya Jirga.
“It is better to dispense the allocated money to the unfortunate people,” she said with terming the agenda and purpose of the Loya Jirga mysterious.
However, Syed Ali Kazami, spokesman for commission on organizing Loya Jirga heaped scorn upon Kofis comments of using Jirga as tool for election, putting creation of national consensus on peace and reconciliation as core reason behind Loya Jirga.
