High-ranking Pakistani delegation visits Kabul

AT News

Kabul: Senior officials of Pakistan and Afghanistan met on Wednesday in Kabul to discuss ways to ease rising diplomatic and border tensions between the two neighbors.

Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif along with a high-level delegation, which also included Lt. Gen. Anjum Naveed, the head of the country’s premier intelligence agency – Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) –, met with Afghanistan’s acting Deputy Prime Minister Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar to discuss “bilateral relations, trade, and economic cooperation,” according to a statement from Afghanistan’s Information Ministry.

Pakistani delegation’s trip to Kabul comes as tensions have increased between Afghanistan and Pakistan in recent months.

Last week, sources in Nangarhar province told the media that Afghan security forces and the Pakistani military have engaged in the Torkham border.

This conflict occurred while the Afghan government has blocked the Torkham crossing due to Pakistan’s breach of promise.

Torkham border crossing is one of the most important trade routes with Pakistan, as thousands of people cross the border daily in addition to commercial goods.
