Kabul, Tehran Seeking to Promote Tourism

KABUL: Iranian Deputy Tourism Minister Vali Teymouri met Afghanistan’s Deputy Minister of Culture Sayeda Mojgan Mostafavi over the development of the industry between the two neighboring nations.

The two officials discussed the expansion of tourism between the two countries through videoconference on Friday, Iranian media reported on Saturday.

Teymouri emphasized on cooperation in the field of tourism education by holding joint training workshops. Both sides stressed reopening of borders and resuming tourism activities with observing health protocols.

Teymouri invited Mostafavi to participate in Tehran Tourism Industries Exhibition slated for the coming months. They also touched upon other issues including issuance of visas as well as the opening of the Khaf-Herat railway.

In a relevant event on Tuesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that a comprehensive political solution with the participation of all Afghan groups is the best guarantee for sustainable peace in the country.

Zarif made the remarks in his meeting with visiting Afghan President’s National Security Aide Hamdullah Mohib on Tuesday.

He expressed satisfaction with the opening of the Khaf-Herat railway,adding, “It is necessary to optimize the Dogharoon crossing to increase border cooperation.”

Hamdullah Mohib, for his part, lauded Iran’s stances in supporting the Afghan nation and peace talks, and stressed the need to expand political, economic, cultural and security cooperation between the two friendly countries.

Mohib expressed hope that regional cooperation would be strengthened via inauguration of joint projects like Khaf-Herat railway.
