KABUL: Residents of the Moqor district in Ghazni province staged demonstrations on Monday, calling on the government to promote the district to a province.
The demonstrators blocked the Kabul-Kandahar highway which passes the district, saying that the central government remained careless to their long demand over the district’s promotion.
They threatened to continue protests if the government does not meet their demand.
Jaghoori, another district in Ghazni is to be announced as province, according to reports. This has made Moqor residents to promote their district too.
Jaghoori is a populous district and was long waiting for promotion.
Afghanistan has now 34 provinces. Daikundi and Panjshir promoted by former president Hamid Karzai in 2000s.
