Meaningful peace efforts needed: Karim Khalili

‘Taliban is like an umbrella for all militant groups, including the Daesh and drug trafficking’

AT News Report-KABUL: The Head of High Peace Council (HPC), Muhammad Karim Khalili has emphasized on further peace and reconciliation efforts to bring peace and stability in the country.

He said Taliban militants have been taken control over a number of areas and battlefield was expended day by day. Khalili has been engaged in consultation with people from every walk of life to pave way for peace and reconciliation with anti-government armed groups.

The HPC said it had not established contacts with the Taliban militants for the last four months. However, it added a number of Taliban militants have taken deep interest in reconciliation with the government.

Moreover, Secretary of HPC and adviser to President on political affairs, Dr. Akram Khpalwak said Taliban is just like an umbrella for all militant groups, including the Daesh and drug trafficking. He added Daesh militants have been making efforts to introduce their notorious ideology in universities as well.

Deputy Head of HPC Attaullah Salim said strategy for reconciliation with militants has been framed. He added implementation of the newly framed policy on militants could open new doors to peace in the country.

The Afghan Taliban, the notorious Haqqani network and Deash militants have not yet welcomed the peace initiative by the Unity Government. However, the leadership of the Unity Government has pledged to continue peace efforts to reach a favorable outcome.
